There's something about the cleanliness of the world we are presented with, a world where you wash your hands of homeless people (literally) and where people who are not you (ie. white men) only appear when they serve a purpose. That purpose, in turn, can be fangirling you (Molly, Sarah), but you're above such petty things. They do not truly compete at your level.

I think you struck the tone very well, and the scary part of it isn't really the tone, or the racism, or the fawning (sp?) women, or the mild homophobia (I loved what you said about it needing no denial, because we all know he isn't); the real scary part is that we, nonetheless, or at least I, get drawn into the idea that this man is a hero, that this world is real, is our day-to-day world (with a twist, yes, but still, recognisably London of today.) It's so subtle. By bringing forth the subconscious messages, you made a list of how many things are wrong with this, that we perhaps didn't notice at first glance, or, like me, only noticed half of.

FYI: in the interest of full disclosure, this caused me to rant a bit in my journal about today's television in general, and I linked to this. Hope that's okay with you.
