* Yes, the Internet is Taking Time You Used to Spend With Actual People, over at Atlantic Cities. The article is more nuanced than the headline.
* A better-than-usual article on fanfiction and slash: A Brief History of Slash. One quibble with the article: I tend to think that reading and writing fanfiction is as closely related to playing Candy Crunch or checking Facebook as it is to writing literary fiction--which is not meant to denegrate fanfiction at all, by the way. I just think folks misunderstand when they compare Jonathan Franzen (the article's example) to your favorite BNF as if that were the whole story. Your favorite BNF is out there with Franzen and that random classmate from high school, who keeps posting about the restaurants she's visited, and your mom, who texts you when she beats your uncle at Words with Friends. Not all storytelling needs to be eligible for the Booker Prize.
