Have I mentioned that I live in a building without central heat? It's a high rise apartment building from the 1960s, lovely in all ways except that one. Instead of central heat or air, each apartment has its own window unit that's supposed to blow cool or warm air into the room. Nice idea, but the units are extremely ineffective--making the four feet closest to the window too hot or too cold, while the rest of the space remains unaffected.
Just wanted to complain about that to someone. This is our first week of truly cold temps--close to 30F/-1C--and the long underwear have come out to play.
I'm continuing to work on
wrisomifu, not achieving much more focus than the last time I checked in, but at least I'll have generated quite a few words in the process.
rs_small_gifts is gearing up with some discussion posts on the run up the official fest, which starts December 1. (You don't need to be an official participant to drop by and comment, if you're in a Remus/Siriusy kind of mood! ) Looking back over previous posts, I'm struck by just how many of you I've met through R/S, and just how long many of us have been in HP fandom, one way or another. I remember when I first found R/S fanfiction, it seemed like the ship was already in decline--Sirius was dead in canon, and HBP, with the way it presented the Remus/Tonks subplot, had cast doubt on the assumption that R/S had been subtextual canon in the previous books. But small gifts grew for a couple years and is still larger than it was the first year, and every year there are new stories and images (at small gifts and elsewhere) that make me think about the pairing differently. I was too anxious about the pairing back then, and fandom more generally--they're still thriving today.
ETA: I completely forgot to do what I'd intended, when I first opened this post: thanks to all for the birthday wishes last week! I've never been much for celebrating, but as I get older, I'm finding that birthdays are a good excuse for getting back in touch with folks. ♥
