Aha! Good to know. He didn't break the skin--he's old and slow, and it was fairly clear what he was trying to do, so I pulled away quickly. Some days he wants attention and petting, some days he doesn't. And some days he changes his mind. Like people, I suppose.
Thanks for the pet knowledge, B! We've never had pets but have been cat sitting and dog sitting lately for the company, and it's a steep learning curve. :) M.
