Birthday greetings
Jun. 26th, 2013 06:54 pmHappy birthday, my dear
onehundredmoons. May this next year be rich, sweet, and worth every calorie. (And to get you in the mood, I offer a slice of the better half's flourless chocolate cake below.)
NOTE: We got this recipe from family friend ED. Thanks, ED!
Cake ingredients:
8 oz. semi-sweeet chocolate (or any kind of chocolate)
1/2 cup butter
5 eggs, separated
1/2 cup sugar
Cake instructions:
1) Take a springform pan (or just a regular baking pan) and line it with wax paper that you've greased and floured.
2) In a double boiler, melt 8 oz of chocolate together with 1/2 cup of butter, stirring until smooth and well-blended. Allow to cool to room temperature.
3) Beat egg yolks in a bowl. Slowly add 1 cup of sugar and continue beating until smooth, milky yellow.
4) In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
5) Add chocolate mix to egg yolks and sugar. Stir until mixed. Then fold chocolate mix into whites. Stir. Do not worry if batter is lumpy.
6) Pour into pan and bake for 40 to 45 minutes at 350F.
7) Allow cake to cool completely before icing.
Icing ingredients:
4 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
1/4 cup butter
Icing instructions:
1) In a double boiler, melt chocolate together with butter. Stir until smooth and well-blended.
2) Cool until warm and pour over cake. Enjoy!
