[There's a challenge afoot to create more of the journal-based (mostly) fannish content that we all saw we want more of by posting regularly for a month. I'll bite. (Though I think in my case it'll be MWF.) Want to join me, oh quieter flisters?]

Flist, you will be pleased to hear that today is the first day of "Operation Precision" at Cafe Magnetic Pole. I've located a spare tablespoon and a Mason jar with ounces marked on it and made my coffee as if I were a scientist conducting an experiment rather than an amateur cook tossing stir fry ingredients in the pan. It's better than Monday's coffee, but not perfect. Yet.

I have some more comments about cooking, but perhaps I should attempt something fannish here first. I've mentioned that I've been following [livejournal.com profile] hp_friendship? As are many of you. I'm not quite up to full-blown recs, but perhaps I can reblog a few of my favorites so far, a la tumblr, just getting them on your radar:

Before Peace, Padma, Anthony, Luna, Terry, Michael; 4900 words, PG
A story about intellectual, bookish people in Gryffindor's era.

Someone for You, Hermione Granger, Mundungus Fletcher; 1900 words, PG
A story about relationships that falter in the face of social difference, good intentions notwithstanding.

Five Times a Conversation Between Professors Lupin and McGonagall Ended in Thanks, and One Time It Didn't Have To, Remus, Minerva; 9000 words, PG
A story about the way long-ago events and persons not present still haunt us.

I'm struck by the loose narrative structure and episodic quality of many of these stories about friendships. Does friendship lack the kind of master narrative romantic relationships have? Not criticizing--it's actually just the kind of thing I like--but the contrast with ship fic is striking.

ETA: Speaking of putting things on your radar: there's a great discussion of the differences between book and film characters over at [livejournal.com profile] accioslash's.
