Home again! I was out of town for a few days last week/weekend and can't tell you how happy I am to be back, catching up on the flist.

Fandom news:

* Sign-ups have started over at [ profile] rs_small_gifts! Delighted to see both old friends (including a couple of you who've participated eight times already) and newcomers.

* I've got my assignments for [ profile] hp_halloween and [ profile] hoggywartyxmas, hurrah!

* I've just caught up with the first two episodes of the latest Lewis, and I'm delighted to see DS Maddox in the mix. Good to shake things up with the Lewis/Hathaway dynamic, good to see a character of color in a regular role (and not as victim-of-the-week), good to see promotions and professional growth and changing responsibilities in a series like this. (Of course Hathaway would be hard to work for, and he'll be a stronger character if we're allowed to observe his faults. Let's hope Maddox is permitted some, too.) I continue to hope they allow Hathaway to remain queer/asexual/single/conflicted/in search of something he can't quite name--please, ITV, spare him the love interest. The bit about his pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela ending short was heartening.

* KORRA! This show just gets better and better. I adore the way this show follows up on its explosions and confrontations with consequences. The Earth Queen's absolute power wasn't good, but it's unclear whether the chaos in Ba Sing Se and political realignment in the Earth Kingdom might be even more disastrous. Korra's finally experiencing the aftereffects of a cinematic battle-to-the-death--fabulous. I hope they have the nerve to follow these threads for a while, without feeling obliged to resolve them too quickly.

Two charming, sexy Janine-centered recs (Sherlock BBC):

* [ profile] achray's Seven Times a Night in Baker Street, Janine/Sherlock, with background Sherlock/John, 4200 words, explicit
"What if we experimented? Kept count? Would you be...amenable?"
"Oh my God," said Janine. "I'm never letting you go."

A clever fix-it fic that responds to the gap between the sexually confident, on-the-prowl bridesmaid of Sign of Three and the apparently gullible girlfriend of His Last Vow. A nuanced and perceptive look at sexuality--nothing in this fic falls into easy categories, but everything rings true.

* [ profile] holyfant's When in Rome Janine/Irene Adler, 2300 words, explicit
The woman smiles. "Irene," she says, and puts out a hand.
And Janine, who came here to get away from people who knew that life, only hesitates for a second before shaking it.

I'm helpless in the face of [ profile] holyfant's femslash. A confection--light, sweet, mouthwatering.

ooo, havent watched Lewis yet.
Loved a few of the Janine fics from Sunday Recs - but havent read these two yet.

The Green Carnation by SilentAuror was a splendid fixit, with a very clever Janine facilitating Johnlock.

and Affirm Me by Rachel4Revenge was a surprisingly believable vignette of Sherlock's recovery from gunshot
